How to use

  1. Press "Choose a file" and pick one image. Choose the kind of image (a photo, or an illustration or anime) and the scale (2 or 4 times).

  2. Press "Enlarge". Larger images take longer (1 megapixel made 4 times larger takes about 2 minutes on a computer).

  3. Compare the result with plain enlarging, then press "Save" to save it.

Questions

Is my image sent anywhere?

No. The AI that enlarges the image runs on your device too. The first time, the parts of the AI (about 33 MB) are loaded from the TEMOTO site, but nothing is sent out after you choose an image.

How is it different from plain enlarging?

Plain enlarging makes lines and details blurry. The AI, from what it learned from many images, makes the lines sharp and draws fine details. In our tests with photos and illustrations, the results were closer to the sharpness of the originals than plain enlarging.

Are the details that the AI adds real?

No. The AI draws fine details that were not in the original, in a way that looks right. Small faces and text can change into other shapes. Do not use it for images that must stay true to the original, such as evidence or documents.

What is the difference between photos and illustrations?

Each uses an AI made for it. For photos it enlarges fine textures well; for illustrations and anime, lines and areas of color. Both also remove a little of the noise of JPEG.

How large can the images be?

Images of up to about 2.1 megapixels (such as 1,920 × 1,080 pixels) can be made 2 times larger, and images of up to about 1.05 megapixels (such as 1,024 × 1,024 pixels) 4 times larger. Larger images take longer, and a phone takes several times longer than a computer.

Can I use it on a phone?

Yes, but it takes time and a lot of memory, so it may not work on older phones. It needs WebAssembly SIMD, so use a recent version of Chrome, Edge or Firefox, or Safari 16.4 or later. The first time, the parts of the AI are loaded, so Wi-Fi is a good idea.
