Compress an image to a size limit
Set a limit such as 200 KB, and the tool adjusts the quality and size of your photo to make a picture under it, for application forms and upload limits. Your photo is processed only on this device.

Questions
Is my photo sent anywhere?
No. Reading the photo and making it smaller both happen on your device. Nothing is sent out after you choose a photo.
How many bytes is "200 KB"?
The new file has at most 200,000 bytes. It fits sites that count 1 KB as 1,024 bytes (204,800 bytes) and sites that count 1 KB as 1,000 bytes.
How much does the quality drop?
The tool chooses the highest quality that fits the limit (up to 92%). When the limit is very small, it lowers the quality to 40% and also makes the picture smaller.
Does the location or other hidden information stay?
No. The new picture has no location, date or device information. Only when a photo already under the limit is kept as it is, its orientation is kept so that it looks the same.
What happens to a picture that is already under the limit?
Its quality stays the same, and only the hidden information is removed. If you choose "Draw again even if under the limit", it is made again like any other picture.
Does the original photo change?
No. The tool makes a new file and saves it.
What is the saved file called?
It gets a name with the size limit, such as "photo-200kb.jpg", because the original file name often includes the date the photo was taken.
What if the picture cannot get under the limit?
The tool tells you the smallest size it could make. Make the limit a little larger, or check with the site you send it to. If that site accepts WebP, choosing WebP may help.
Can I use iPhone photos (HEIC)?
Yes, in browsers that can open HEIC (mainly Safari). Elsewhere, change the photo to JPEG or PNG first.
What if the width and height are also limited?
The tool cannot set the width and height yet. It shows the width and height of the new picture in the result.
Can I use it on a phone?
Yes. Large photos can take a while. Inside apps such as LINE, saving may not work. If so, open the page again in Safari or Chrome.
Limits
- Not every picture can get under every limit. If it is still too large at 320 pixels on the longer side and 40% quality, the tool makes no file and tells you the smallest size it could make.
- The quality and size are lowered, so the new picture is rougher than the original. The original file does not change.
- Moving pictures (GIF, moving WebP or PNG) become a still picture of their first frame.
- Photos with a wide range of colors (such as photos from recent phones) are drawn again in the usual range (sRGB), so very bright colors can become a little softer.
- Browsers that cannot write WebP offer JPEG only.
- Some sites also set rules for the width, height or format. Check the instructions of the site you send the picture to.
- One file can be up to 50 MB, and a picture up to 50 megapixels.
- We cannot protect against things in your own environment, such as browser extensions.
