Questions
Is my PDF sent anywhere?
No. Reading the PDF and splitting it both happen on your device. Nothing is sent out after you choose a file.
How do I write the page ranges?
Write page numbers separated by ",", such as "1-3, 5, 7-9". "1-3" means pages 1 to 3. Full-width digits and the marks "、", "-" and "〜" can be used too. The tool tells you when a page does not exist.
What are the saved files called?
They are named by their pages, such as pages-1-3.pdf. Two or more are saved together in pages.zip. The original file name is not used.
Can other pages remain in an extracted PDF?
No. The new PDF is made from the chosen pages only. Links to other pages, and links that would open another file or app or run a script, are removed (links to web pages, email and phone numbers stay, and so do links that give the PDF reader a command such as next page or print), and images and fonts that only other pages use are left out. The author and similar details are left out too.
Can I use PDFs with a password?
No. Remove the protection first from PDFs that need a password to open, or that limit printing or changes.
Are there pictures of the pages?
No. This tool copies the pages as they are, without drawing them, and splits them. Choose pages by their numbers. The page list shows the size and orientation of each page. To see what the pages look like, turn them into pictures with "PDF to images".
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. On an iPhone, ZIP files open in the Files app. Inside apps such as LINE, saving may not work. If so, open the page again in Safari or Chrome.
Limits
- PDFs with a password or other protection cannot be used.
- Bookmarks, attachments, the author and similar details, the structure for screen readers (tags) and the color settings for printing (output intents) are not kept. Links are kept only when they go to pages of the PDF, web pages (http, https), email or phone numbers, or give the PDF reader a command such as next page or print (links that would open another file or app, or run a script, are removed).
- Comments on the pages and their replies stay as they are, with the names of the people who wrote them and their dates. Comments that are never shown, and replies to them, are left out.
- Form fields are copied onto the pages as they look, with what was typed or ticked, and cannot be filled in again (digital signatures are not valid in the new PDF). Marks that attach files or play sound, video or 3D content (annotations) are taken off the pages.
- The pages are not shown as pictures. Choose them by their numbers.
- One PDF can have up to 200 MB and 2,000 pages, and the new files up to 500 MB in all.
- We cannot protect against things in your own environment, such as browser extensions.
