Questions
Are my PDFs sent anywhere?
No. Reading the PDFs and merging them both happen on your device. Nothing is sent out after you choose a file.
Do the pages change?
They look the same: the contents of the pages are copied as they are, and their sizes and orientations stay the same. Two things change. Form fields are copied onto the pages as they look, with what was typed or ticked, and can no longer be filled in. Marks that attach files or play sound, video or 3D content (annotations) are taken off.
Can I use PDFs with a password?
No. Remove the protection first from PDFs that need a password to open, or that limit printing or changes.
What is the saved file called?
merged.pdf. The original file names can contain names of people or dates. The names of the chosen files are shown only inside this box, to tell the files apart.
Are the author, the title and similar details kept?
No. The new PDF has no author, title, creation date or similar details. Bookmarks, the structure for screen readers (tags) and the color settings for printing (output intents) are not kept either. Text typed into form fields is copied onto the pages as it looks. Text without a saved look cannot be copied: the tool tells you when you choose the file. Comments on the pages and their replies stay as they are, with the names of the people who wrote them and their dates. Comments that are never shown, and replies to them, are left out.
Are there pictures of the pages?
No. This tool copies the pages as they are, without drawing them, and joins them into one PDF. Tell the files apart by their names and page counts. To see what the pages look like, turn them into pictures with "PDF to images".
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. Large PDFs can take a while. Inside apps such as LINE, saving may not work. If so, open the page again in Safari or Chrome.
Limits
- PDFs with a password or other protection cannot be used.
- Bookmarks, attachments, the author and similar details, the structure for screen readers (tags) and the color settings for printing (output intents) are not kept. Links are kept only when they go to pages of the PDF, web pages (http, https), email or phone numbers, or give the PDF reader a command such as next page or print (links that would open another file or app, or run a script, are removed).
- Comments on the pages and their replies stay as they are, with the names of the people who wrote them and their dates. Comments that are never shown, and replies to them, are left out.
- Form fields are copied onto the pages as they look, with what was typed or ticked, and cannot be filled in again (digital signatures are not valid in the new PDF). Marks that attach files or play sound, video or 3D content (annotations) are taken off the pages.
- The pages are not shown as pictures. Tell the files apart by their names and page counts.
- Up to 20 files, 200 MB and 2,000 pages can be merged at once.
- Text and images on the pages are copied as they are. Text that is hard to see on a page is not removed.
- We cannot protect against things in your own environment, such as browser extensions.
